Toureen Group welcomes Construction Management students to prestigious London project

Toureen Group recently welcomed a group of Construction Management students from the University of Bedfordshire to their flagship project in London, with the aim of highlighting opportunities within the industry and sharing best practice procedures.

The students, who are currently in their second year studying Construction Management, received an in-depth safety briefing before a full tour of the site.  Andy Fox, project director, explained in detail the scope of the project, as well as highlighting the technical elements and the challenges that needed to be overcome.

The students experienced first-hand the day to day working and management of a complex construction site. Visiting a project which included works such as multi-level basement excavations and complete roof demolition and reinstatement, enabled the group to develop a greater understanding of how their Construction Management theory is being put into practice on a daily basis.

The students themselves commented that the site visit was beneficial to their studies, learning about many construction practices such as piling methods, top-down construction, complex demolition works and deep site excavation. The detailed planning and programming on a project with such a tight site footprint was of particular interest to the group and they were impressed with the overall Construction Phase Management and Health & Safety procedures in place.

Dr James Bishop, Senior Lecturer in Construction Management & Building Technology, at the University of Bedfordshire liaised with Toureen Group to arrange the visit and said:

“Feedback from the students has been excellent and Andy did a fantastic job of explaining the key elements and challenges of the project, and in fielding plenty of questions from the students (and myself!).

I hope that we can collaborate with Toureen Group again moving forward.”
